Polk County Man To Face Murder Charges
On Saturday, Dec. 1 the Polk County Sheriffs Office received a 911 call from a male caller indicating that an ambulance was needed at an apartment in the Village of Milltown because someone was hurt. Upon arrival, officers couldn’t get anyone to answer the door, and couldn’t see into the apartment from outside. Officers made entry into the apartment and found Kari G. Roberts, 47, deceased from what appeared to be blunt force trauma injuries.
Ms. Roberts lived at the apartment with 45-year old Scott Youngmark, who was soon located at his mother’s residence. Coincidentally, that residence is where the 911 call originated from.
The Inter County Leader reports that Mr. Youngmark admitted to making the 911 call, but denied causing the trauma to Ms. Roberts. During the conversation with Mr. Youngmark, officers believed that he had been consuming alcohol, which was a felony bond violation as Mr. Youngmark was currently out of jail on three open felony cases in Polk County. Officers report that Youngmark subsequently failed a breath test.
Evidence and statements obtained during the initial investigation suggest that the statements Mr. Youngmark made in reference to Ms. Roberts’ injuries and death were inconsistent. Those inconsistencies have lead law enforcement to believe he was involved in her death.
The Leader reports that charges against Youngmark, directly relating to the death of Ms. Roberts, will be filed within the next few days.
