Moose Lake-Willow River Defeats Jackson County Central 27-20 & Advance To State Chamionship Game!

The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels were set to compete for another State Championship game on Tuesday at 2pm, as the Rebels took on the Huskies of Jackson County Central live in Semi-Final action from Mall of America Field on FM 100.9 Cool Country.
It was a close game throughout the afternoon, as both teams scored in a back & forth pattern. The game started off with a two yard touchdown run from Jackson County Fullback Spencer Johnson. The Rebels quickly answered with a 10 yard touchdown run of their own from RB Mike Pender. to end the 1st Quarter at 7-7.
Pender scored another touchdown early in the 2nd quarter from two yards out. However this time around Jackson answered quickly, with a Darick Vancura touchdown run. Before the half could end, Jake Disterhaupt scored on a great 28 yard run to help the Rebels take the lead at halftime 20-13.
Both teams came out good defensively in the second half, as neither squad could muster up any 3rd quarter points. Moose Lake – Willow River looked to shut the game with a four yard touchdown run from Mike Gassert, but the Huskies responded with yet another Vancura touchdown to make it 27-20. The Rebels held their own for the remainder of the game, and earned the chance for another State Championship!
The Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels are still undefeated this season with a 13-0 record, and are returning to the State Championship game with the win today . It will be a re-match of 2011′s AA State Chamionship game against Caledonia. The Huskies of Jackson County Central finish the year at 10-3.
