Twins News: Baker Signs With Cubs
Former Minnesota Twins pitcher Scott Baker has agreed to a one year, $5.5 million contract with the Chicago Cubs for next season. Baker could earn an additional $1.5 million in performance bonuses.
The Twins had a $9.25 million option on Baker for next season but declined to exercise it on Oct. 29. There still appeared to be mutual interest in bringing back Baker on a new deal after the option was declined, but Baker opted to sign with the Cubs instead.
Baker had spent his entire career in a twins uniform. He had a career record of 63-48 with a 4.15era with the Twins before he had Tommy John surgery last April. Baker was among the club’s all-time leaders in several categories, including 11th in starts with 159, 11th in wins with 63 and 11th in strikeouts.
