Wisconsin Officials Reminding Hunters About Firewood Rules
Wisconsin’s gun deer hunting season starts Saturday and state officials are reminding hunters about firewood rules.
The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection want hunters who may be camping to use firewood from where they are setting up or to purchase wood from a certified dealer. Officials are trying to prevent hunters from bringing emerald ash borer and gypsy moths into different areas throughout the state.
Melody Walker, the chief of the state’s Pest Survey program, told the Associated Press that emerald ash borers and gypsy moths are two of the most destructive forest pests in North America.
It’s illegal to move firewood from areas that are quarantined. Fifty-one Wisconsin counties are quarantined for one or both pests.
