Pine City Defeats Two Harbors In Last Regular Season Game [WCMP + Audio Replay]
The Pine City Dragons football team looked to end their regular season Wednesday night with a win against Two Harbors. That much was accomplished as they beat the Agates 22-17. WCMP broadcasted the game, which started at 7PM on 1350AM WCMP.
Pine City started the scoring early in the 1st Quarter with a 22 yard Touchdown reception from junior Ausin Pavelka, making it 8:0 after a successful two-point conversion. Two Harbors quickly answered minutes later with a 6 yard TD reception of their own, putting the game close at 8:7. At halftime the score stood 16:7 in favor of the Dragons.
Devon Ripka scored twice in the course of the game, having a five yard run in the 2nd Quarter, as well as a monster 45 yard run in the 4th, which set the score at 22:10.
Pine City was played with a big lead after the Ripka touchdown, however Two Harbors responded with a march up the field late. The drive ended in a 1-yard Quarterback sneak by Kyler Kinn, making the score 22:17 with only minutes to go in the game.
After failed onside kicks and a jittery offensive hold-down, the Dragons held the lead to win the game 22:17, which marks their only home win of the year.
The Two Harbors Agates unfortunately finish the year with an 0-8 record. The Agates struggled on offense this season, averaging only 13 points per game, while allowing almost 40 per game. Last season Pine City defeated Two Harbors 50-14.
The Dragons fought hard through an emotionally tough year. Pine City will finish with a 2-6 record, and also ended their 5 game losing streak coming into the game. Best of luck to all of our local teams in the playoffs.
