A wildfire happening near Ely is under control, despite burning, at last estimate, more than 30 acres of forest. According to a spokesperson with the Superior National Forest Service, the fire started near Ely on Sunday afternoon.

As of Monday the fire was still burning in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area near Cummings Lake, but was under control.

The Forest Service said suppression is underway with air patrol working the skies and 12 firefighters on the ground. CL-215s are also being used to scoop water to drop on the flames.

No injuries or burned structures have been reported. The fire is burning in an area of black spruce trees, causing some delay in mopping up the fire.

The Forest Service says there isn’t an estimated time for containment.
