Boxes of unintentionally aged cheddar cheese were found in Eastern Wisconsin recently.

73-year-old Edward Zahn had been exploring the remnants of his soon-to-be-closing cheese store in Oconto. Through the piles of boxes Zahn owns, he found 3 hidden boxes of aged cheese (28, 34 & 40 years old).

Ken McNulty, owner of the Wisconsin Cheese Mart in Milwaukee, states instead of selling it by the pound, he will be selling by the ounce for $10 so more people can try the cheese. He bought the cheese for an undisclosed amount.

When describing the blocks of cheese, McNulty stated “if you get a piece on the outside, it’s crunchy and crystallized, like a corn flake. If you get a piece on the inside, it’s much more creamier and sharp”.

20 pounds of the 40-year-old cheddar will be sold to the public, as well as 120 pound of the 34-year-old variety.
