Twins Trade Valencia
The Minnesota Twins traded third baseman Danny Valencia to the Boston Red Sox for a Minor League outfielder on Sunday.
Valencia hit .198 in 34 games for the Twins this season. He had 2 home runs and 17 RBI. He was sent down to Triple-A Rochester on May 9 and recalled on July 27 when Trevor Plouffe went on the 15-day disabled list.
The Twins got Jeremias Pineda in the trade. The 21-year-old Pineda hit .421 with 22 RBIs in 36 games for the Gulf Coast League Red Sox this season. He’s a switch-hitter and is capable of playing all three outfield positions.
To fill Valencia’s roster spot, the Twins recalled infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka from Triple-A Rochester. In 84 games for the Red Wings this season, Nishioka hit .245 with 13 doubles, a triple, a home run, 24 RBI.
