Mining Bill Discussions Held Off

Saturday, July 28th, 2012 at 12:02 pm

If you’re keeping up with Wisconsin’s new mining bill, you’ll have to wait a little longer for results.

One of Wisconsin’s largest lobbying groups, Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce, stated there should be no more discussions with lawmakers on the new mining bill until after elections in November.

Vice President of the group Jim Buchen wrote the comments earlier last week to Wood Communications Group; which happens to handle all communications for the Wisconsin Mining Association.

All of this arose after a bill that was designed to open a huge iron-ore mine south of Lake Superior. Buchen also stated in his letter that there will be no “substantive action” on any mining bill for 2012.

Republicans will also have to take Senate control by at least two votes to pass the bill favored by the mining company.
