A Cottage Grove man was arrested Monday evening in Burnett County in Wisconsin after he led police on a high speed chase in a stolen car. Authorities also say the man was in possession of methamphetamine.

The Wisconsin State Patrol says a trooper attempted to stop 27-year-old Christopher Lee Stensgard on Wisconsin state Highway 35 at approximately 5:50 p.m. Monday.

Stensgard tried to outrun authorities before leaving the vehicle and four passengers. Authorities say Stensgard then jumped into Clam Lake “in an apparent attempt to swim across the lake.”

Eventually, Stensgard was apprehended and arrested.

He was charged with fleeing officers, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a stolen vehicle.
