Fatal Car Crash Reported By Pine County Sheriff’s Office

A terrible car crash happened Monday evening in Pine County where multiple people died.

At approximately 5pm, Pine County Deputies responded to a 2 vehicle accident on State Highway 48 near Grace Lake Rd. A black minivan heading East on Hwy 48 struck a light colored sedan that was west on Hwy 48 in a head on collision. The initial investigation showed that the black minivan crossed the center line striking the sedan head on. The 20 year old male driver of the sedan was killed on impact. The 18 yr old female passenger in the sedan was extricated and flown by Air Ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, where she is in critical condition. The 61 yr old male driver of the black minivan was extricated and flown by Air Ambulance to St. Lukes Hospital in Duluth, where he died of his injuries.

It is unknown at this time why the black minivan crossed into the opposing lane of traffic. The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating.

Deputies, Troopers, EMS, and Fire/Rescue personnel from several agencies worked on the scene. This was an extremely difficult incident for all involved.
