Fatal Crash In Pine County Reported

Press Release from Pine County Sheriff’s Office:

On July 6th at 8:21 pm Pine County Deputies responded to a 2 vehicle accident on Hwy 61 at Groningen road. A green sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed on Groningen road approaching Hwy 61. The sedan failed to stop at a stop sign for hwy 61 and struck a full size van broadside on the passenger side while traveling on hwy 61 passing Groningen road.

The 73 year old PASSENGER of the green sedan was killed on impact at the scene. There was no indication of seat belt usage or passenger side airbag deployment. The Ramsey
County Medical examiner is conducting the Autopsy. Notification of next of kin are still being made.

The 37 year old DRIVER of the green sedan had critical injuries and was taken by ambulance to Essentia hospital in Sandstone then airlifted to Essentia Hospital Duluth. There was no indication of seat belt usage but the driver airbag did deploy. The status of his condition is unknown at this time.

The full size Van that was struck was driven by a man (uninjured) with his wife as passenger. The 65 year old PASSENGER of the Van was taken by Ambulance to Essentia hospital in Sandstone and airlifted to Essentia hospital Duluth with serious injuries. She is in stable condition at this time.

The accident is still under investigation by the PCSO and the State Patrol.
