On Thursday, we covered a huge high school softball game in Park Falls Wisconsin as the Grantsburg Pirates officially stamped their ticket to return to State. Yes, the Pirates softball team defeated the Elk Mound Mounders 6-1 in the section championship and will now advance to state for the fifth time in school history. The Pirates softball team already has two state championships, but are hoping for a third now next weekend.

Grantsburg’s bats started out hot in this one as they scored three runs in the first inning, two more in the second, and never looked back. Sam Schweiger had a solid day at the plate for the Pirates getting an RBI, a single, a double, a walk and a run scored. Grantsburg finished with 9 hits as a team, four of which were doubles.

Sophomore Macy Hanson was back in the circle and she was pitching brilliantly. Hanson had seven strikeouts in her complete game win, and allowed just two hits, one walk and one earned run.

Our Jesse Logan visited with Grantsburg head coach Don Bjelland in the victorious dugout after the game.
