Four Dragons Advance To State In Track
While most of our radio stations efforts to cover spring sports focus on the major sports of baseball and softball, primarily as those are the sports we broadcast. Still, the other sports local students compete in are just as important, especially when some student athletes truly excel. We’ve got several such athletes in Pine City who have advanced to State in track.
On Wednesday, the Section 5A Track meet was held at St. Johns University. The four Dragons athletes advancing to State meet were Jordan Pangerl in 100m, 200m and 4x400m relay, Nick Cummings in triple Jump and 4x400m relay, Paul Skalicky in 4x400m relay and Zain Hunter in 4x400m relay.

The finish of the 4×400 was very close with three teams battling it out in the last 100m, jockying back and forth for position. In the end, Pine City was just narrowly edged out for the win, taking second and advancing to the state track meet.
Nick Cummings was the Dragons only Section Champion, winning the triple jump outright.
Cummings and Pangerl were each a part of the boys 4x100m relay team that won a state championship last season. The boys state track meet will take place June 8-9 at Hamline University in St. Paul.
