WCMP Broadcasting Live From Field Day In Pine City!
Today is a special day in Pine City as all of the students from the elementary school will head outdoors today to compete in games for the 44th Annual Harter Memorial Field Day. Students in grades one through six annually look forward to competing in traditional track and field events such as running races, high jump, long jump, discus throw and more.
The first field day was held in 1969 and many years later WCMP began broadcasting live from that event as the day begins. It is a big event around the area as many parents and grandparents will attend and campers will line the perimeter of the field so families can congregate and make memories.
Yes, Field Day is a magical day on which memories are made. It’s also received statewide notoriety in the past, most recently when U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar showed up in Pine City for the event to sign autographs. Klobuchar was interviewed live, on air, by our News/Sports Director Jesse Logan. (Klobuchar was in town that morning to visit with Pine City’s Cindy Hickey, the mother of Shane Bauer, one of the two American hikers who was imprisoned in Iran at that time. Bauer has since been freed.)
We will broadcasting again today from Harter Memorial Field Day at Pine City High School on both WCMP AM and FM throughout the morning. Check back on this website for pictures and videos that will be added throughout the weekend as well. Best of luck to all of the kids in the competition today!
