Former Viking Cris Carter Admits He Offered Bounties

Amidst all of the drama of the NFL’s Bounty Program investigation, former Viking Cris Carter added fuel to the debate in an interview Tuesday Night.

In an interview on ESPN radio’s “Hill and Schlereth”, Carter explained he himself offered bounties to offensive teammates to protect himself from opposing defensive players, notably ones who would take cheap shots and trash-talk.

Carter even specifically targeted former linebacker Bill Romanowski, saying the linebacker threatened him before a game. Carter said “I put a little change on his head before the game,” ” To protect myself. Protect my family. That’s the league I grew up in.”

However today in an interview with the Dan Patrick show, Romanowski said the statements by Carter were “absolute fiction”, admittedly saying he had thoughts in his mind of hurting Carter, but would never actually bother to trash talk Carter before a game.
