PCHS Pops Concert Coming Friday Night
The Pine City Band Pops Concert arrives Friday night featuring the music of “The Sky – and Space Beyond,” including music from the movies Top Gun, Superman, and Star Wars. It will also feature sky and space themed songs like “Moon River,” “When You Wish Upon a Star,” “Gonna Fly Now” (Rocky theme), and even “Stairway to Heaven,” by Led Zeppelin.
In addition to featuring nearly 80 senior high band students in the Wind Ensemble and Jazz One, director Brad Mariska is collaborating with two special guests. Vocal soloist Erin Gaffaney (pictured below) will lend her soprano voice to a powerful and moving arrangement of “Stormy Weather” with the jazz band. Gaffaney is a music teacher and choir director for Braham Schools.
The Wind Ensemble will also be led by guest conductor John Kleppe (pictured below) on the theme from “Superman.” Kleppe is a band director in Ellsworth, Wisconsin, and a 2007 graduate of Pine City High School.
Mariska also promises that the concert will include recognition of 27 band seniors and a few fun surprises, as well. The hour long concert begins at 7:30pm in the Elementary Auditorium and, as always, admission is free of charge.
