Polk County Van/Semi Crash Kills One UPDATE***

One person was killed in a crash between a minivan and semi early Wednesday morning in Polk County. All lanes of Highway 8 near Amery were closed for a time while crews cleared the scene. Eyewitnesses reported that the accident happened about a mile east of the intersection of 8 and 46 south between St. Croix Falls and Amery.

The collision claimed the life of a rural Clayton man, Garrett V. Javner, 44, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A press release from the Sheriff’s Office states Javner was westbound on 8 about one-fourth mile east of the Amery Junction of Hwy. 46 when the van he was operating crossed over the center line and struck an oncoming semi trailer in the rear axle area.

The truck was driven by Jacob Hoheisel, 32, of Avon, Minn. A third vehicle, a Toyota Camry was also westbound and was hit by the debris from the initial crash.

The occupants of the semi and Camry were unharmed.
