MN Proposal To Raise Hunting/Fishing License Fees Now On Hold

A proposal to raise hunting and fishing license fees has been put on hold in the Minnesota Senate.

Republican author Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen tabled the bill after he attempted to add Senate language that includes the fee hikes to a House-passed bill without the increases. His amendment was defeated on 27-39 vote, with lawmakers in both parties split.

Those who objected to the amendment weren’t on board with the complete elimination of conservation fishing licenses. Its unsure if or when this bill may be brought up again.

The Department of Natural Resources says higher fees are needed to avert budget cuts, but it doesn’t look like any increase is going to be coming right now, and time is running out on this legislative session.
