Isanti Man Killed When Train Crashes Into Semi

Authorities have identified an Isanti man as the the semi truck driver killed in a crash with a train over the weekend in northwestern Minnesota.

The State Patrol says 65-year-old Dale Buzzell of Isanti was killed in Saturday’s crash, which happened around 3:30 a.m. on Highway 59 south of Plummer, southeast of Thief River Falls.

According to the State Patrol, Buzzell’s semi was northbound on Highway 59 when the collision happened. Buzzell died at the scene.

A spokesperson for Canadian Pacific told the Associated Press a train car that derailed was carrying bunker oil, a fuel oil used aboard ships. Some of the oil leaked, and an environmental team was called to the scene.

Residents within a one-mile radius of the crash site were evacuated for about two hours as a precaution.
