Pine City Community Garden Registration Coming In April
Now that spring is here it is time to plan your vegetable garden. If you need or want a place to grow a garden in Pine City, you are invited to attend the Pine City Community Garden Information and Registration meeting on Thursday, April 19th at 7:00 p.m. at the new Pine County Courthouse Commissioners’ Room in Pine City.
Pine County Master Gardeners will go over basic gardening tips and review community garden policies and practices. You will be able to register that evening to have one or more 20’x10’ garden plots. Gardeners who have had plots in the past will also share their gardening experiences.
Paul Johnson, Community Garden Co-Coordinator said, “A community garden plot is a chance to grow your own food. It is mental and physical therapy. It is also a chance to meet some other people and it can be a good learning experience”.
The Pine County Master Gardeners are willing to mentor new gardeners.
The community garden is located in Challeen Park at 10 S.E. 3rd St in Pine City. It is a cooperative effort between the Pine County Master Gardeners and the city of Pine City. The garden began as one of the priorities identified by the Pine City Horizons program four years ago.
Gardeners who want a plot are asked to submit their application and a $15/ plot fee for a 20’x10’ plot by May 1st to the Pine County Extension office.
For more information contact Community Garden Coordinators Paul Johnson at 629-6213 or Jan McLearen at 629-5940. Applications will also be available from the Pine County Extension office at 591-1653 or 800-657-3813 Ext. #3 and in the Courthouse lobby.
