MN DNR Burning Restrictions To Begin Next Week

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012 at 7:21 am

The Department of Natural Resources is imposing burning restrictions over much of Minnesota next Monday.

That means the state will not give out burning permits for yard waste or brush burning. Campfires are still allowed. The initial burning restrictions this spring cover much of central and northern Minnesota.

The following counties in or near the listening area will be included in the initial burning restrictions this spring: Aitkin, Anoka, Carlton, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Pine, and Washington. A complete list of all Minnesota counties with burning restrictions can be found on the DNR’s website, and as spring weather continues, additional counties will be added as conditions warrant.

The DNR says fire danger is expected to rapidly increase in most of Minnesota in the coming week as snow continues to melt and winds dry dead grass and brush.

The restrictions usually last from four to six weeks until vegetation greens up.
