Isle Trying To Advance To State Tournament For 1st Time

Tonight the Isle Huskies will attempt to advance to their first State Girls Basketball Tournament with a win over Upsala in the Section 5 Class A Championship game.

The Huskies are having an outstanding season this year winning 24 of their 29 games. They are going into the section championship game red hot, winning 18 of their last 19 games. The opened the playoffs with a 88-22 win over Pillager. In the next round the Huskies took down Royalton 90-61. Then in the semi-finals they defeated Pine River-Backus 54-48.

The Upsala Cardinals will be a very tough opponent. Currently ranked number six in Class A, the Cardinals have won 22 games in a row and have a 28-1 record. These two teams did play once this season where the Cardinals defeated Isle 71-62 in January.

WCMP’s Jesse Logan caught up with the head coach of the Isle Huskies, Paul Tinjum,  and they talked about the team and tonight’s game.
