The Audubon Center of the North Woods in Pine County was awarded a $45,000 grant to upgrade and repair windows.

The center will receive the grant money to upgrade the windows of the Arnold Schwyzer Summer House and Farmstead. The grants are awarded by the Minnesota Historical Society.

More than $3.8 million was awarded for the fiscal year 2012 to 59 organizations in 39 counties.

The Minnesota Historical Society received a 2011 legislative appropriation to award $10.5 million in Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants during the 2012 and 2013 fiscal years. The grant money comes from an increase in state sales taxed voters authorized with the 2008 passage of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.

David Grabitske from the Minnesota Historical Society explained to WCMP what  the grant program is.
