Fire fatalities rose in Minnesota in 2011. According to the Minnesota Public Safety Department’s State Fire Marshal Division there were ten more fire deaths in 2011 than 2010.

The Division said 51 people died in fires in 2011. That compares with 39 people in 2010.

Officials say 2010 last year’s number was abnormal as the number of fire deaths has been decreasing consistently since the 1980′s. Here locally we had several fire deaths last year, most recently the three people killed in an apartment in Mora: 8-year-old Michael Caley and his 12-year-old son, Coleman, and a neighbor, 68-year-old Shirley Norling all lost their lives back on Thursday, Dec. 8.
