A Wisconsin police officer was arrested on Friday on tentative charges of drunken driving and hit-and-run.

Police Captain Steve Klein says the Fond du Lac officer was off-duty at the time of the incident. The officer was driving his personal vehicle when he crashed into a parked car at about 2am on Friday. A neighbor who witnessed the crash called 911 and another officer pulled over the man’s vehicle, which had front-end damage.

Klein tells The Reporter of Fond du Lac the police department has started an internal investigation.

The off-duty officer is a 12-year veteran of the police force. He’s on paid administrative leave while the investigation is pending.
