Registration begins tonight for the inaugural Pine Pond Hockey Classic at Westside Park in Pine City. The two-day tournament will run Saturday and Sunday at the area also known as the Pine City swimming beach during summertime.

This tournament has been started by a group of local hockey enthusiasts who are looking to make an outstanding community event out of the game they love. Profits from the tournament will go back to hockey in the community in some way, shape, or form to ensure hockey sticks around in Pine City!

Jim Lavin has helped put the event together and he visited with our Mike Hughes about it.

The tournament will feature all teams in one open division. It will be a 4-on-4 style tournament with each team being able to roster up to seven skaters of men and women over 18 years old. Each team is guaranteed three games. The cost to register a team is $300, and registration is scheduled for Friday night from 5-10pm. A live DJ from Danny C’s will be there tonight and tomorrow night as well.
