2012 Mora Vasaloppet Races Cancelled

Monday, February 6th, 2012 at 7:41 am

The unseasonably warm weather and lack of snow has led to the cancellation of ALL the 2012 40th Anniversary Mora Vasaloppet races.

Sunny skies and high temperatures of 40 degrees in the forecast led the Vasaloppet USA board of directors to their decision. The warm temps will melt what snow remains on the Knife Lake back-up ski course. This week’s forecast also didn’t show any race-saving snowfall.

All of the races are cancelled as a result including the Miniloppet, the Friendship Tour, and the Eldris Sprints. Skiers that registered for the 2012 race will receive a certificate towards a twenty-five dollar discount off of the 2013 race registration. The certificate will arrive in the mail to skiers that are registered.

All other community events planned for the 40th Anniversary Celebration will continue with some changes of time and venue.

The Vasaloppet will host a community appreciation event at the Vasaloppet Nordic Center Complex and ski trails next Sunday for all volunteers, sponsors, and skiers. An orienteering event, hiking, skating, bonfires and food are planned. The event will begin at 1 pm and will run until dusk.
