Authorities Warn Of Thin Ice

Authorities in Minnesota are urging people to be cautious on all lakes due to thin ice and open water.

The latest thin ice warnings come after a pickup truck broke through the ice Saturday on Lake Minnetonka.

According to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s office, the pickup truck, was carrying two men, broke through the ice on Smith’s Bay and became submerged. The men escaped through the truck’s windows and made it to shore. They suffered no injuries.

Authorities say Saturday’s incident is a reminder that ice thickness varies due to the warm weather. They are also urging people to also keep an eye on their kids and keep their dogs on leashes. Authorities said they’ve responded to incidents where pet owners put themselves at risk after their pets wander out onto unsafe ice.
