Pine County Sheriff’s Report: Cole Discusses Internal Investigation

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 at 1:37 pm

This week Pine County became the epicenter of one of the biggest stories in the state: the year-long internal investigation by the Pine County Sheriff’s Office caused a lot of questions. As usual, Sheriff Cole was back in our studios and was more than willing to discuss the situation with Mike Hughes and Jesse Logan.

Cole also gave a rundown of other events happening in Pine County over the past week. (Segments 2 and 3 are the ones focused on the internal investigation)

I don’t think it should have gone to the media until he has all his facts and information. If this is really legit, then why did he go to the media so quickly?
Mitch Pangerl looks like such a little lap dog!

  2. Pine County Tax Payer 02/3/12 at 8:42am

Isn’t this a little conflict of interest. Like the fox guarding the hen house? If you truely want an honest investigation have an outside agency conduct it. Otherwise it looks like retaliation.

  3. BRoyalton 02/3/12 at 2:58pm

The Sheriff said on the radio that 10 of the investigations, some done by outsiders, came up with nothing. Nothing will come of his “gun” investigation either. So he has wasted a lot of money trying to get even with the people who fired him. He has spent a lot of money on fancy Sheriff’s clothes, cowboy hats, and embroidered leather chairs. He also fired a lot of good people who actually lived in our community. Before he was fired, he was in charge of the evidence room. Maybe he needs to be removed from office. Shame on the PC Pioneer and WCMP for not asking him any tough questions.

  4. Countrykickin 02/4/12 at 10:16am

Wow, lot’s of misinformation on the three comments above. Sheriff was never in charge of the evidence room when he was the Lieutenant. The Cole lawsuit spelled out what was going on and that’s why they got rid of him, to cover up their misdoings. Remember, they settled and he won. You people need to find something better to do than trash a good man. Your bitterness over losing only shows he is in the right. Other agencies were involved but you keep on spreading the rumors. I heard a lot of tough questions being asked and answered but it is obvious that you are nothing but bitter people who will always stick up for the good ole boys, even when you are in the wrong. Glad to finally have a professional stick up for all of the people of this county, not just friends and family of the old administration.

I commend Sheriff Cole for the changes he’s made to the department. I think it’s long overdue that someone FINALLY had the courage to address the issue of police corruption. It has been an issue in this county for a long, long time. I applaude you Robin Cole!!! Keep up the good work. I support you 100%. THANK YOU!!!

Statistics state 1 of 5 persons suffer from mental health issues, PCMom1, Pine County Tax Payer and BRoyalton appear to make this percentage even higher. Take a look at your personal lives and decide do you want to be a part of making your surroundings better or do you just like mediocrity and corruption? What aren’t you able to get away with anymore? So quick to judge, yet so misinformed. BRoyalton, you should be a fiction writer and PCMom1, your comments are juvenile. Pine County Tax Payer, well I had hoped you would know better, so disappointed. Hats off to our new Sheriff and all the deputies who are out their working hard. I commend your efforts in making this a safer, more honest community and not hiding the truth from us anymore.

  7. BRoyalton 02/5/12 at 9:05pm

There is no misinformation Countrylickin. You are a very confused person though. Why was Cole fired? Maybe he should release the information. He didnt win his lawsuit. The county settled to save the taxpayer the trial costs. Big difference. The only corruption is the lies Cole is feeding you, and you are gullible enough to believe. And yes, he has purchased cowboy hats for his posse, 15 embroidered leather chairs, and spent 7k on fancy uniforms for himself; which helps to explain why he is over budget. I don’t really feel safer with temporary part-time deputies who are looking elsewhere for employment.

  8. PCMOM1 02/6/12 at 8:45am

Just because someone does not agree with you does not make their comments juvenile. You really don’t think Mitch Pangerl looks like a lap dog?

  9. ignorant people 02/6/12 at 9:21pm

pcthe mom, you should do your research for once and not make comments unless you have a clue what is going on. you are a ignorant person, and I am sure you are friends with most of the past corrupt sheriffs in this town. Wouldnt you like to live in a good clean community, with less crime, and drugs? Oh and thats just the sheriffs department. People like you are the problem

  10. Dang 02/7/12 at 6:53am

I guess I am not sure what the term lapdog is suppose to me – but it seems as though it is a term that someone who is uneducated would use. Besides, I was thinking he was a pretty good looking young man. Any board meeting I ever attended he is the only commissioner that presents himself in a professional cleancut manner.

  11. Julie 02/8/12 at 3:46pm

Corrupt? I would like to know which officers are corrupt and why? Are they corrupt because guns are missing? Are they corrupt because they have violated the law in some way? If so, then what officers have never violated the law? We really should be holding our county board members accountable. Why are they allowing someone to buy 7,000.00 worth of uniforms, chairs, hats or whatever in a time like this? Maybe the Sheriff’s budget is too high. There seems to be lots of complaints about how the Sheriff’s office has been run and how it is being run now. Complain to the County Board. Suggestion, maybe it should be posted on what the county policy is on how a person can retrieve lost, stolen or confiscated items. Has the county board seen all the letters that were tucked away in the drawers of the sheriff’s desk? County just needs to get used to our new sheriff’s tactic on how to manage people…calls Channel 11.

  12. Pine County Tax Payer 02/9/12 at 5:01pm

TGT III, and Countrykickin, both should take a look at reality. Where is “Moe” now when they can’t find any charges? He lets “Larry” speak to the press because now he is not in the spotlight. Then you got “Curley” our so called,(in the pocket)commissioner, who looked like a complete idiot on television speaking for our County Commissioners who were not all informed of the “Investigation” like he stated to the PC Pioneer.
If our Sheriff (Moe) would have also told the PC Pioneer that forfeited property, either cash, weapons, vehicles, etc., can be used by the Sheriffs Office or auctioned off if not usable. Cash can be used when placed in a seperate account and reported to the State Auditor for “Law Enforcement” purposes only. Weapons can be given to SWAT, cash can be used to purchase equipment, just let the State Auditor know. Hopefully the “Three Stooges” will figure this out before this County starts feeling the budget overage. PC Pioneer, should of been given the info that it costs approx., $3000.00 to uniform and train each new hire. Gee what happen to the 20 part-timers hired, uniformed, and most of them left…..Nice going boys!!!!!!

  13. HRarick 02/11/12 at 1:09pm

Wow,I can’t believe that anyone can write what they want on here and remain anon….at least in the PC Pioneer, you have to at least sign your name….

  14. Ex Pine-Citian 04/19/12 at 2:44pm

Does anyone have an update on this story? Did anything ever come of it?

  15. Katie 05/9/12 at 12:26pm

If anyone should know the corruption of this department it would be someone who used to work there. That would be me. I have never seen such keystone kop BS and terrible behavior among men AND women with badges than I saw while I was there. There was constant sexual harassment, rude and lazy behavior among deputies, sargents, AND the Sheriff. I can’t even tell you the things that happened on here. It would be blocked. It is about time someone stepped up to the plate, and took on the unpopular task of making Pine County a better place to live for the good people that live there.
