Duluth School Bus Driver In Critical Condition After Crash

Friday, January 13th, 2012 at 8:40 am

A school bus filled with children crashed in Duluth’s Kenwood neighborhood around 4 pm Thursday afternoon, leaving the driver in critical condition.  None of the students was injured.

Police said the bus lost control when trying to make a turn, went into one yard, crossed the street into another, and hit a tree.

The Duluth School District said the bus was carrying about 27 students from Lowell Elementary.  A second school bus came to take the students home.

WDIO in Duluth is reporting that a mechanical problem is to blame for the accident, not the driver of the bus. However, the Duluth Police Department is not confirming that information, saying a cause is yet to be determined.

Along with an investigation, the district said the next steps will include a detailed inspection of the bus.
