Guns In Wisconsin Courthouses Being Discussed

Thursday, January 5th, 2012 at 8:13 am

An anti-violence group is urging Wisconsin’s state Supreme Court justices to curtail concealed weapons in courthouses.

A new Wisconsin law allowing state residents to carry concealed weapons went into effect in November. The law generally bans weapons in courthouses but judges, prosecutors and anyone with a judge’s permission can still go armed.

The Associated Press reports that the Supreme Court is set to discuss how to implement the law in state courtrooms next week.

The Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence has urged the justices Wednesday to ban anyone from carrying a weapon on a day a relative is scheduled to appear in an action affecting the family. The coalition also wants to limit permission to carry to the judge’s courtroom only and have police transport people’s weapons outside the courtroom.
