Wisconsin Man Dies After Driving On Open Water On Snomobile
A snowmobiler went through thin ice on the Flambeau River in Rusk County Monday afternoon.
Crews received a call of a man through the ice on the river about 5 miles southwest of Ladysmith, in the Town of Thornapple.
WEAU reports that family members pulled the man out of the water and started CPR.
The man, who has since been identified as 26-year-old Christopher Stanger, was operating his snowmobile on the river and attempted to drive over an open area of water..
Stanger was rushed to Rusk County Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
With temperatures in the upper 40′s, water in the area has not frozen over sufficiently enough to handle heavy equipment like snowmobiles.
