More news is coming out now about a fatal crash in Northwest Wisconsin from over the weekend. A Bayfield man died Sunday after his vehicle slid off the highway, flew over a creek and into an embankment.

The Bayfield County Sheriff’s office said it happened around 8 p.m. near the Town of Barksdale. The driver of the vehicle, 42-year-old Timothy J. Funk, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The sheriff said other drivers found the vehicle upside down in the ditch and called 911. To make the tragedy even worse, one of the 911 callers tried to reach the man, but ended up falling 20 feet onto concrete in the process. That woman was 54-year-old Deborah Compton of Ashland who had to be airlifted to Duluth. Compton’s condition is unknown.
