Wisconsin Deer Hunters Harvest More Deer Than Last Year
State wildlife officials say hunters killed slightly more deer this year during the traditional gun hunt than were killed last year.
The Department of Natural Resources says preliminary estimates show hunters harvested 226,260 deer over the nine-day hunt that concluded Sunday. The DNR’s final estimates from last year put the total kill at 221,534.
Hunters took 102,837 bucks in 2011, up from 100,574 last year.
DNR officials cautioned the 2011 harvest estimates are based on calls to registration stations. The agency will continue to gather more data over the coming months and expects to have final kill totals in February.
