The Siren Dragons basketball team started out the 2011-12 season with a solid effort and an 83-27 win over the Shell Lake Lakers on Tuesday night.

The Dragons came out from the opening tip, pressing from end to end, and used stifling defense to hold the Lakers scoreless for the first four minutes of the contest.

Shell Lake had no answer for impressive junior Murdock Smith, who led all scorers with a game high 22 points. Andrew Brown was impressive in the post and on the glass, regularly altering shots and setting a tone defensively. Brown also had 13 points. Luke Bollant showed promise as well, contributing 10 points and playing with intensity.

Siren head coach John Ruud was up off of the bench for most of the game, continuing to bark out orders and imploring his team execute the pressure-packed game plan. With length, athleticism, and a deep bench, the Dragons press was very hard to break all night.

Ruud also talked with our Jesse Logan afterwards.
