Three people were injured in a two vehicle crash involving an OWI driver in Chippewa County. The Sheriff’s Department there says the crash happened around 4 p.m. on less than a mile outside the Town of Wheaton.

Deputies say two vehicles were traveling westbound on County Trunk Highway X when one vehicle side swiped another vehicle while attempting to pass it.

The crash caused the vehicle attempting to pass to rollover on the south side of the road, causing extensive damage.

Deputies say the vehicle that rolled had five people in it. Two passengers were injured and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies say the driver in vehicle fled the scene and was later arrested for operating while intoxicated, causing injury.

The crash is still under investigation.
