The 2011 WIAA Football Playoffs will finally begin tonight after a tumultuous weekend that had the brackets in flux with the lawsuit Messmer/Shorewood filed against the state. Now that its been all cleared up we can get back to football. The Grantsburg Pirates will travel to Stratford to take on the Tigers in the opening round match-up Saturday afternoon. The two squads will be meeting on the gridiron for the first time.

The Pirates enter the game at 4-5 overall and finished 4-2 in the Lakeland Large Conference. They are coming off a 42-14 loss to the Unity Eagles last week.

Stratford is a former Division Six power that has 7 state championships, including an incredible run from 2003-2008 where they won six in a row. Now, the Tigers are in playing in Division Five.
