It’s Teen Driver Safety Week In Wisconsin

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011 at 6:38 am

The focus is being put on the safety of teenage drivers this week in Wisconsin.

Gov. Scott Walker has declared this as Teen Driver Safety Week and the Department of Transportation is reminding young drivers and their parents about the dangers of inexperienced motorists.

The DOT says last year, 57 teenagers were killed and 6,189 were injured in traffic crashes in Wisconsin.

Officials believe teens are more likely to crash because they are less experienced drivers and they tend to take more risks, like texting while driving.

The DOT offers a parent and teen driving contract that helps establish rules and consequences for a teen’s driving behavior. It is available on the department’s website.
