Bauer Film To Show At Highway 61 Film Fest On Friday Night
For more than two years we followed the story of a Minnesota freelance journalist and his two friends who were jailed for hiking across the Iranian border. Thankfully, all three have finally been released.
One of those men, Shane Bauer, has a film that will be screened at the upcoming Highway 61 Film Festival in Pine City. A documentary Bauer co-directed will be featured on the opening night of this weekend’s festival at Pine Technical College in Pine City. “Songs to Enemies and Deserts” is about the rebels of Darfur. Bauer and co-director David Martinez spent five weeks with the rebels in 2007, and the film was in production when Bauer was imprisoned in 2009.
The 35-minute movie caps off a two-hour session of short films that starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Pine Tech Auditorium.

Bauer’s mother lives in Pine City.
