Boundary Waters Fire Update
The fire that started near Ely on August 18 is now 71 percent contained as of Sunday evening.
A new command team will take over the fire fight today. Spokesman Larry Helmerick told the AP that his Colorado-based team will turn over the job at 6am on Monday to a Minnesota team that has had experience on this fire.
Helmerick also said the cost of fighting this fire has reached $14.2 million.
The fire that started from a bolt of lightning has burned about 145 square miles around the Boundary Waters.
