Community Dance Coming For Hinckley Girl Killed In July 1 Storm

Monday, September 26th, 2011 at 1:20 pm

Mackenzie Klar and her family were camping with some friends at a campground near Spooner, Wisconsin on the night the July 1 storms rolled through the listening area.

Witnesses said the storm came up fast and Mackenzie, who was from Hinckley, MN, ran for cover. Kenzie was killed by a falling tree as she ran from a playground where  she was with a five-year old boy.

Shortly after the tree came down on top of here, around 20 men lifted the tree so she could be pulled out from under it. Her rescuers, including her mother, tried to resuscitate her while they waited for the ambulance, but it was too late.

The Mackenzie Klare Memorial Fund has been established in her memory and an upcoming community dance will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Hinckley-Finlayson High School Gym.

Everyone is welcome and a DJ will be on hand to provide the music. A silent auction and snacks will also be provided.
