Brewers Clinch NL Central¬†Championship

Saturday, September 24th, 2011 at 11:49 am

For the first time since 1982 the Milwaukee Brewers are division champions after they beat the Florida Marlins 4-1 Friday night.

This is the team’s first-ever Central Division title.

The Brewers join the Philadelphia Phillies, Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, and Texas Rangers as division winners. That leaves the two wild cards as the only races left before the playoffs start next week.

Going into Saturday the Tampa Bay Rays trailed the Boston Red Sox by 2 and 1/2 games in the AL wild card and in the NL wild card Atlanta is on top of St. Louis by 3 games.
