Bauer, Fattal Freed
After more than two years of waiting, two Americans, Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal, have been released from an Iranian prison according to several reports.
Associated Press reporters saw a convoy of vehicles with Swiss and Omani diplomats leaving Evin prison Wednesday with the freed Americans inside. It is believed they heading to Tehran international airport.
Earlier on Wednesday, the court approved a $1 million bail-for-freedom deal that cleared the way for the release of the men.
The Iranian attorney for the two, Masoud Shafiei, had indicated that he planned to go to Tehran’s Evin prison to begin the procedure for the release of Bauer and Fattal.
“The case is over,” Shafiei told the AP. “The court has ordered that they be freed on bail.”
The men have been cut off from their families, friends and all contact with the outside world for 782 days. Their freedom was secured when a document granting bail was signed Wednesday by a third judge, whose vacation delayed the process.
Bauer’s mother, Cindy Hickey, is a Pine City resident.
