Boundary Waters Fire Update
As of Sunday afternoon, the 147-square-mile fire in the Boundary Waters was only 11 percent contained, according to officials. Sunday’s rainy weather did help, but Monday that rain is expected to clear and the winds may pick up.
Doug Anderson, a spokesman for the firefighters, told the Associated Press that says the extra rain on Sunday kept the fire from spreading while giving firefighters a chance to make more progress containing it.
Anderson says the winds on tonday are expected to swing around to the west-northwest, which could blow smoke back over Lake Superior.
There are now 565 people assigned to fighting the fire.
