The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has again recognized some local schools for their excellence. Webster Middle School and Frederic Elementary School have both been named a Wisconsin School of Recognition for the fifth consecutive year. An awards ceremony will take place in October, and these two schools will receive flags for earning the Wisconsin School of Recognition award for five consecutive years.

In addition, Webster Elementary received the designation for the fourth time and the Frederic 7-12 School has been named for the second year.

The 2011-12 Wisconsin School of Recognition awards go to schools that have some of the highest poverty rates in the state based on free and reduced-price school lunch data. Student achievement on the 2010-11 state reading and mathematics examinations was above average for schools from similarly sized districts, schools, grade configurations, and poverty levels.

Each school also met adequate yearly progress for the past two years. In addition to a plaque which will be presented at the awards ceremony in Madison, each school also has earned a cash prize.
