Wisconsin hunters will be able to hunt bears beginning next week.

Wisconsin’s black bear season opens on Wednesday and it runs through October 11. Hunters will be required to submit a bear tooth and a 2-inch piece of rib during registration to help with the bear population study that the DNR is conducting to ensure that the quotas are set at the right level.

DNR officials say they issued 9,005 permits. The statewide harvest quote is 5,235 bears.
