Sheriff’s Report: Cole Fired Up About Budget Meeting In Pine County (Audio)

Thursday, September 1st, 2011 at 11:22 am

One of the most anticipated parts of our weekly program schedule is the Thursday morning appearance of Pine County Sheriff Robin Cole. Heard at 7:30am on Cool Country 100.9, each week Cole informs Pine County on the activities of his office and the deputies it employs.

This week’s report featured an update on the recent budget meeting Cole had with the Pine County Commissioners, where Cole said some on the board think he’s providing “too much public safety.” Cole added that 2 of the Commissioners believe that he is providing “too many Deputies” in the county.

Cole said in his career he’d never heard of such a thing, and wants the people of Pine County to know that he’s “still five percent under budget” and is “providing more deputies out then have ever been provided for the same amount of money.”

Cole also said one of the Commissioners commented that the pubic thinks there are too many squad cars seen around now. Cole disagreed.

Perhaps it’s time to rethink who “represents” us. Thanks Sheriff Cole, Chief Blackwell, and all of the Deputies. I for one appreciate your efforts toward making Pine County a better place to live and do business.

TOO MANY SQUADS SEEN, TO MUCH PUBLIC SAFETY!!!! Where do our Commisioners get those comments from. Our commisioners need to wake up and realize it is the 21st century and we need as much coverage as we can reasonably afford. If Sheriff Cole is only asking for an increase to replace some worn out patrol cars and have an increase of 4 deputies with essentially the same budget, I don’t think it is too much to ask for. It is nice to have a pro-active Sheriff’s office instead of the re-active one we used to have under the previous Sheriff. Who is complaining to the commisioners?–the criminals and malcontents. I sure don’t hear any complaints about the increase in deputies and patrols seen from my neighbors. To our Commisioners—Quit placing a political strangle hold on our safety without any good reason! Ask the decent people of our county what they think instead of the criminals and malcontents you seem to be listening to all the time.

Thank you Sheriff Cole. I personally appreciate the increase in patrol here in Sandstone. I live on a Busy street, and to see more squad cars in the area is a hope for me that maybe i won’t have cars racing past my house at all hours of the night at 40-50 mph in a 30mph zone. All this, and still under budget. Who is to complain? Maybe the Deputies who can no longer sit at a certain location for 3-4 hrs per night?
    Thanks again Sheriff Cole,
    Thankful
