Washburn County Man Concealed Mothers Death Since 2005 To Collect Social Security Check
The body of an elderly woman found in her home may have been dead for years.
Sheriff’s officials in Wisconsin said the bodies of an elderly woman and her son were found in their home after a postal worker notified the authorities that mail was uncollected at their rural Stone Lake home in Washburn County.
Deputies discovered the body of 67-year-old Michael Egan on a bedroom floor. Officials believe he may have been dead for at least a week. Officials also looked for Egan’s mother, Elizabeth, who was last seen six years ago. She was found on a couch under sleeping bags and plastic.
Investigators say the woman’s Social Security checks were directly deposited into her bank account and that Michael Egan was using the account.
