Trial Begins For Hibbing Man Accused Of Attacking Mayor
A trial has begun for a Hibbing man accused of attempting to rob a group of people in May, including the city’s mayor.
Daniel Thurstin is one of three defendants accused of the crime. He’s on trial for assault and aggravated robbery.
Police believe he and two other defendants demanded money in the May incident from a group of people who were walking down a street, including Mayor Rick Cannata.
WDIO of Duluth reports that Mayor Cannata was bitten above the eye by one of the defendents that night. Thurstin’s attorney asked for a change of venue recently, which was denied.
